Self Esteem and Perception

What processes allow us to take a disorderly set of lines and colorss that enter our oculus, and transform them into a meaningful representation of the universe? Out of characteristics we build objects, and out of objects, we build classs and categorizations for points, objects, workss and people in the universe around us. Mental imagination allows us to retrieve what we have seen and to work with and pull strings relationships in order to work out certain jobs. Our senses play a big axial rotation in how we perceive things. When you see, hear, gustatory sensation, touch, or smell something it adds to your experiences and perceptual experiences. How we are ( our feelings, our relationships, our reactions, and our beliefs ) all influence and aid in determining and pull offing our perceptual experiences. The film The Truth about Cats and Dogs shows many illustrations of how the human head plants and how we develop perceptual experience. This film shows many illustrations of how the human individual develops his/her perceptual experiences about ego, others, and the universe around them.

Self-Perception is a procedure by which we come to cognize and believe about ourselves ( the features, qualities, and inner provinces that we attribute to ourselves ) . By imputing stable traits and digesting characteristic to ourselves, we feel we are better able to understand our behavior and chart our future actions. There are many different perceptual experiences that we have of our ego whether it is mental or physical. Like Abby in the film many adult females have the self-perception of being overweight, which is an illustration of physical perceptual experience. Besides, she was concerned about her tallness and her beauty. Why? Well society and the media have told us for old ages what is right and what is incorrect. Even though most of the clip society and the media are incorrect we still listen to them and make what they say is right. This can do really low self-pride in oneself. By stating person that being 100 lbs is acceptable and being 120 lbs is non, you lower their ego -esteem and do them believe they are unacceptable in society. Abby was a victim of this. The universe was stating her you have to be tall and thin goddess to be beautiful and she was non up to those outlooks. This caused her to go ashamed of herself when Brian ( another character in the film ) asks to run into her. Alternatively of stating him what she truly looks like, she lies and tells him what she thinks he wants her to look like. Some of the mental perceptual experiences we have of our egos can be detrimental and maintain us from good things. Abby s hapless self-esteem even leaked into her personality. She thought that she was non deserving much, by non demoing up for the meeting with Brian, and was scared of doing any errors when she was around him. She would set herself down a batch, and was really bemused with how they appear to others. Everything that we think of ourselves whether it is our personality, looks, qualities, or abilities, attributes to our self-perceptions whether they are good or

bad.

Percepts of others can come from first feelings, physical features or past experiences with that individual. A first feeling from a individual can give you a life long perceptual experience of that individual. If they are nice and go forth a good feeling on you so you will by and large hold good ideas of them. But, sometimes people can acquire really bad first feelings of people ; Abby did in this instance. When she foremost saw Noelle s boyfriend she new he wasn t a good individual right off, from the manner he treated adult females as objects and non people. This made her dislike him really much throughout the film. Physical features besides play a great function when you see others. If person is attracted it entreaties to you more, and you would do more of an attempt to acquire to cognize that individual or acquire involved with that individual. This happened in the film when Abby thought that Brian would be more attracted to Noelle so herself. Percepts can besides come in experiences with that individual. If you tend to lie a batch around a specific individual, they may believe you can t be trusted. Besides if person negotiations behind another individuals back, you might believe that they would make the same to you. From the manner Abby and Noelle kept impudent flopping functions, Brian s experiences made him believe the Abby that he thought was existent was a really unpredictable individual. These are major factors on how the human individual develops perceptual experiences of each other.

Peoples develop perceptual experiences about the universe around them, which feeds to how they perceive themselves and other people. Like in self-perception, and even perceptual experience of other, the manner we see the universe is all depended on society and the media. They all tell us how to look and how to move to be accepted in our universe, by Brian rinsing us into what we think is right. As I mentioned before Abby, Brian, and Noelle were all victims of this encephalon rinsing all for different grounds. Abby for believing the universe and thought that her visual aspect was unexceptable, Noelle for being used by the media to demo what the perfect adult females should be, and Brian for believing it all. The universe can be a barbarous topographic point, and even though you may believe everything about is perfect and there are no jobs, there ever are because of the struggles in us, and around us.

The Truth about Cats and Dogs is a really good illustration in demoing how we as people create the perceptual experiences of ourselves, others, and everything around us. It shows many many illustrations of how people act and respond in all of those state of affairss. We put each other into classs and justice each other on how we act, look, and believe. The manner we as people classify and characterise things, can non be helped, it is the manner we have been brought up for centuries, and it most probably will non alter. A batch of people are enduring because they feel they don t fit the description of the ideal individual, and it s a unusual thing in how we decide on what is ideal. I think we should all wake up, and be who we are no affair how tall, short, fat, scraggy, reasonably, ugly, smart, or stupid we are.
